Doctor of Philosophy in Business,
Specialization in Organizational Behavior
The Ph.D. with a concentration in Management is designed to prepare full-time Ph.D. students for careers in research and teaching. In addition, we admit part-time Ph.D. students who may desire to pursue a variety of career opportunities, including teaching, research, consulting, and corporate careers. The department offers research and teaching assistantships to our full-time students. If you seek to apply for one of the assistantships you must apply for admission and for the assistantships by January 1. Prerequisite Courses
Students must satisfy the math/statistics prerequisites for MGMT 632 (MGMT 500, MGMT 524, or equivalent). Students must also have exposure to basic business disciplines and foundations. This exposure may be satisfied with existing undergraduate or graduate coursework or by taking a total of four MBA-foundation courses chosen from four of the following categories: accounting, business law, economics, finance, information systems, marketing, and management.

Specialization -- Organizational Behavior
The specialization consists of nine hours, and provides sufficient advanced study in one discipline in order to prepare students for research. The current area of specialization available to students is Organizational Behavior. It consists of MGMT 746 Cognitive and Emotional Processes in Organizations, MGMT 750 Motivational Theories and Applications, and one elective chosen from 600- and 700-level courses within the university. Other specializations may be developed based on faculty and/or student interest. Additional specializations shall consist of 9 hours and include one 700-level course from the Management Department.
Track (minor area)
Students have their choice of tracks from within the department, school, and university, including an individualized track if approved by the Program Committee. The number of hours required for a track is determined by the academic department offering the track. If a student chooses a 4-course track instead of a 3-course track, the total hours to complete their program will increase from 55 to 58.
Research Preparation
Research preparation for Management concentrations consists of the 12-hour Research Core Component established the Ph.D. Program Committee within the School of Business. The core consists of the following three courses, plus one additional research core course approved by the student's program advisor:

Teaching Preparation
Students will continue to participate in the teaching mentoring program, although they will not earn credit for their experience. Students will be required to take GRAD 602 Seminar in College Teaching (1 credit) and they will be strongly encouraged to enroll in additional courses in the "Preparing Future Faculty" and "Preparing Future Faculty for the Professions" programs.
