About VCU

With more than 30,000 students on two campuses, we are the third-largest public research university in the commonwealth of Virginia. With origins dating back to 1838, VCU Medical Center, situated in the heart of the city of Richmond's business, government and financial district, houses the schools of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine (including the emerging School of PUblic Health), Nursing and Pharmacy. The Monroe Park Campus, located in the historic residential neighborhood known as "the Fan," began its creation in 1917 as the Richmond School of Social Economy. Its purpose was to provide training in the field of social work. The school later became the Richmond Professional Institute. In 1968, RPI merged with the Medical College of Virginia to create VCU. Today the Monroe Park Campus houses the College of Humanities and Sciences (including the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs and the schools of Mass Communications and World Studies), the schools of the Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Social Work, the VCU Graduate School, and VCU Life Sciences.
About Graduate Studies in Business
Located on the VCU Monroe Park Campus, with a new 135,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility opening in the 2007-08 academic year, the School of Business enrolls more than 500 students each year in its graduate degree and certificate programs. Graduate education in business encompasses many fields of study from the well-recognized Master of Business Administration to degrees more focused and tailored to a specific business discipline. The program offerings allow you to choose study at the certificate, master's or doctoral level.
All our academic programs are fully accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the most prestigious accreditation available to business programs.
Location Matters
VCU is located in Richmond, the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. VCU is a short two-hour drive from Washington, DC. As the capital of Virginia, Richmond is both the political and commercial focal point of the state. Twelve Fortune 1000 companies have their corporate headquarters in the area. The region also is home to several Fortune 500 companies including CarMax, Circuit City Stores and Dominion Resources, as well as large, private employers such as Markel Corporation, Capital One Financial Corporation, Philip Morris USA, Wachovia Corporation, and Richmond's own Ukrop's Super Markets Inc.
Located along the James River, the capital city is a major East Coast financial and manufacturing center, attracting a diversity or corporate headquarters, businesses and industries that offer a variety of opportunities for internships and employment for VCU School of Business students. Richmond also offers a prosperous commercial environment for many small businesses and was ranked by Entrepreneur magazine as the No. 1 mid sized city in the US for small businesses.

Small Class Sizes
You can expect class size in the advanced courses to vary between 12 and 40 students. The smaller class size provides you greater opportunity to participate in discussion and allows you to benefit from the rich experiences of other students.
Diverse Student Population
Students come to the School of Business with various educational and work experiences to share. Enrollment figures indicate that more than 38 percent of students are female, 12 percent are international and 25 percent represent minority populations.
